About Me

My name is Bo and I am an artist and educator who specializes in ceramics, art metals, and performance art. I have over 6 years of experience teaching art to ages pre-k to 60+.

Personification is second nature to me. When I see and touch inanimate things, I try to construct a narrative for them, a personality, an attitude, anything that imbues them with life. When I experience clay, this tendency of mine is let loose and I am drawn towards creating bodies, faces, hands, and toes; beings that exist in a world of their own and that interact with each other within that world. The things I create reflect me in the way that I see life: odd, complicated, funny, and full of indirect purpose. This indirect purpose is shown in my building process as I am fascinated by the act of making something functional then morphing and combining it with other altered functional things to then become fixed as something not very functional at all. By giving my sculptures “life” I have taken away their original purpose, while also, perhaps cruelly, given them a new and much harder goal for their new life than holding cereal ever was.
